As an introduction to my new crafting blog; I wanted to introduce you to some of the various crafts that I have explored. Any adventure is full of exploration and crafting handmade items is definitely that!
Some, you have no idea how they will turn out! That's scary!!
and then there are those........kits.............that should turn out
I think most of us have been there and done that...right?
But, in case you have been discouraged, don't give up.
I didn't....so there is hope!
I like what I read once about Quilting. It is said...(supposedly)...that the Amish purposely make a mistake in their quilts. I personally don't know for sure..but the reason is so that Pride doesn't well up and take the God given talent away from God's glory
Sounded wonderful to me...and so...
Yes...I make lots of Amish Quilts!!
By the way...I just love the buttons in the above photo..I plan to use those on a Quilt one day.
Some crafts do inflict injury, so you have to be very careful. A needle stuck in your finger isn't so pleasant. However... there is comfort in knowing that band-aides are a dime a dozen!
Another craft I enjoy is cake decorating....messy...but FUN!
And my Calligraphy has been given many times as gifts...
I sew...mend...applique...quilt...glue and fuse!
Crochet and I can knit and pearl!
... have painted various items with embellishments...
barrettes, jars, chairs, shelves and just about anything you could paint.
It is just so much fun to make something...just a little bit prettier or cheerier.
I have yet to venture into watercolor...but that is a one day goal of mine for sure.
Crafting for me is also the fun of "thinking" how something will look...decorating for example.
I enjoy planning our ladies luncheon each year, with a specific theme...and weddings! Such wonderful times of life to make things so pretty.
As a young person....I won't define the age here...
I never realized how enjoyable crafts were, and I regret that I was not exposed more to the variety of choices. And...because of this...I had no idea what I was capable of doing myself!
I ventured a tad in sewing, because in High School we had to take Home Economics which included sewing, cooking and in my school...would you believe WOOD SHOP!
Yeppers..I created in seventh grade...a lovely wobbly spice rack for my mother! Yea, now that you ask...I don't know what happened to it? Seems like I should still own such a unique item of craftsmanship!
I suppose those could be counted as baby steps in the art of crafting. I just wish I had someone then, to guide me along...I missed out on so much!
So..if you are talented in a certain area...SHARE. Teach a class in your church or at some one's home. Take a young person under wing and show them they do have the ability to do it too!
"Can she do it?...Yes, she can!!"
I am so thankful to God for the many Christian women who did influence me in my young married days and as a new Mother; to the joys of crafting and gift giving from a creative heart.
I'm indebted to these ladies for the time they spent with me. Teaching me, the value of finding my God given talents.
I chose to search mine out! I bought kits and books and just ventured on my own. The exploration has been such a great journey.
I hope this encourages you to pursue some areas of talent you have yet to discover!
She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth to the needy.
Proverbs 31:19-20

You are so right about just trying something... I've learned (and fell in love with) so many crafts just by trying them out!
I love the thought behind "Amish Quilts".... I make lots of those too! :)
I think..I'm going to be quite busy now with projects for this new blog!
and...we won't tell where our secret "mistakes" are..okay!
Wonderful! It was very nice to have had such great encouragement to make things handmade. I alwasy enjoy handmade gifts, as they reflect the heart of the giver! It's so much fun being creatvie isn't it?
