I made this paper doll as an example for my granddaughters a while back...
I loved paper dolls growing up. In fact, my mother use to make them for me. I was saddened when I found out that Mary Engelbreit was no longer publishing her HOME COMPANION magazine that featured a paper doll in each issue. I saved all mine! I'm so glad I did!
Mary E. is also one of my favorite artist. Such sweet artwork.
Here are the two I helped my g'daughters make.
We cut out the tiny little accessories and the girls loved playing "dress up".
I hope it is a lasting memory to my g'daughters. I know that I'll be keeping my little Mary Engelbreit paper doll for a long time. I have happy memories of my childhood when I look at her.
And of course...this one is holding a sweet remembrance of my Schnauzer Heidi. You can read about her on Gus' blog.
I love to keep the simplicity of childhood play in the minds of my grandchildren. Like, tea parties with stuffed animals! and yes...even play spiders!
There is still a little child in all of us...
Blessings!
HOPE~

So sweet!
Paper Dolls! Oh, how I spent many hours as as child playing paper dolls. If I did not have any I would cut them out of the Sears Catolog. Whatever happen to going to the 5&10 (?)store and buying paperdolls? They were cheap even back then. Little gitls don't know what they are missing. Unless of course they have grandmothers that can show them.
Good job>
I so love paperdolls. :) And I love Mary Engelbreit too! I used to get quite a few printable paperdolls here: http://marilee.us/paperdolls.html
I remember playing with paper dolls when I was little. I had printed some up for my girls too.
I love Mary Engelbreit too and you're right ~ there's a little girl in all of us :o)
Blessings and I hope you're feeling better!
Hi Hope,
I had no idea you had a passion for paper dolls. so do I. I have collected so many sets shared from a yahoo group.
I love Mary E too and have a few wallpapers of hers. Such fine work she does.
Another wonderful artist I adore is Jessie Wilcox Smith. I adore her work. But I am also partial to Beatrix Potter too.
Hope you are having a great week.

You know what Hope, I have my back issues of the Home Companion with the dolls in the center. I'm going to take them out and put them together and have them ready for a nice fall gift. I loved paper dolls as a child. My grandmother gave them to me. A sad and touching story: when I was a kid, some little girls were temporarily living with a neighbor (their aunt). Their house had burned and the girls were cutting models out of catalogs to use as paper dolls. They even named them.
I see another person has left a link for a paper doll source, I'm going to check it out. I loved playing with paper dolls. I think kids used their imaginations more 'back when'.
